Fair Trade Gold

Fair Trade Gold

Fair Trade Gold

The reality of gold is not as beautiful as you might think. About ninety percent of the labour force involved in gold mining is made up of small-scale miners who produce around the 250 tonne of gold each year. 70% of this gold is used to make jewellery.

A lot of people worldwide count on small-scale mining to support their families and communities. Small-scale minors often work long days and in difficult conditions. They don’t have the things they need to make it safer for them and they can’t afford it.

It can be very difficult for small-scale miners to get a fair price for their gold. For fair trade gold, miners get a Fair Minimum Price and a Premium to spend on improving their businesses or on community projects, you can think about education, clean water and healthcare.
